Rise Up–Matt Maher
I don’t get to go to concerts very often, because it seems there’s always something else going on. When I heard Matt Maher was coming to a nearby city, however, I decided it would be worth it to make my way there. My husband was a good sport, as usual, because he let me drag him along. Again.
This song, Rise Up, was one of the first ones he did–I was almost disappointed! I wanted to be able to spend the entire concert looking forward to hearing it towards the end. Whatever–it was still awesome! This song had been my second-favourite of his, but it’s now at the top of the list. The words just hit home:
When you don’t know how to surrender, ’cause your whole life’s been a fight
When the dark owns you and you can’t break through ’cause you haven’t seen the light
Open up your eyes!
Been there–that was me, not that long ago. I didn’t even know I’d been fighting, because I’d been doing it for so long. The biggest battle was inside of me, with myself. I can’t say I’ve given it up entirely, but I’ve learned a lot about letting go of worries and remembering that God wants good for me, and will look after me. It was a hard road to get there, and I don’t want to lose the gains I’ve made towards peace in my heart. I need to be vigilant so I don’t get dragged down again!
You’ve got to rise up, rise up, when this life has got you down
You’ve got to look up, look up, when you search and nothing’s found
Mine eyes have seen the glory of a love that’s here and now
It’s coming down, so rise up now!
P.S. Thanks to my friend over at http://www.peacelovegreatcountrymusic.com for volunteering to help me out with adding videos to my posts. I feel much more competent and confident now!
