Free to Be Me–Francesca Battistelli
‘Cause I got a couple dents in my fender, got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together, but perfection is my enemy
On my own I’m so clumsy, but on your shoulders I can see that I’m free to be me
This is a great song to help me keep my own dents and bruises in perspective. Everybody collects some scars on their way through this life. The question is whether we allow those scars to permanently damage us, or whether we use them as healthy reminders of what we’ve been through. Easier said than done, I know, but if we can arrive at that place of healing, the feeling of freedom is wonderful! God will lift the burden of guilt and shame from our shoulders, so that we can get on with the business of living the life he wants us to. I’ve spent time in the prison of regret, and God helped me to free myself–he wasn’t the one keeping me in there, I was. Some days, the dark corners of my mind beckon, and try to pull me back in, but I fight my way out. God doesn’t want us to be shackled by the voice of the accuser, he wants us to listen to the voice of truth that he has planted inside us.
On your shoulders I can see that I’m free to be me!
