Here is my response to the Weekly Photo Challenge: Beginning. Considering the theme, I think it’s appropriate that this is my first time ever to join in on the photo challenge.
I snapped this picture on the morning of January 2, the start of another new year, at one of my favourite times of day. The sun had not been up for long, the rest of the family was still sleeping, and the best part: I didn’t have to go to work! I love it when the light is like this, soft and quiet, yet throwing bright squares against the wall, making the coming day seem full of possibilities. Creative whispers stir in my mind, and my thoughts turn to things I want to do, rather than what I have to get done. This early-morning light has inspired at least a couple of songs, jotted scraps of poetry, and plenty of improvising on the piano. On days when I need to get out the door to go to work, this morning sunlight inspires a twinge of regret for what might have been, if only I had some time to explore what the light suggests.
